Now that you have chosen your ideal cigar, its time to get your humidor primed to accommodate your collection. Like fine wines, do not rush the process. It takes time, serenity, and a little mastery to get a new humor poised to hold cigars. An arid humidor will ravage your collection. Spanish cedar is the sought-after wood for humidity control and ripening top-end cigars. The wood must be seasoned or humidified before it is primed to maintain cigars:
- To season a humidor, take an unscented new sponge and dampened it with distilled water. Do not water-log.
- Rub the unprotected wood, including dividers, and the interior cover with the sponge. Paper towel should not be use to prevent traces of residue from being left on the wood.
- After the wood has been stroked, spray the sponge with additional distilled water. Position the sponge within the humidor on a plastic bag. Do not permit the sponge to come into direct relations with the wood. Close the lid.
- Only utilize distilled water. Tap water contains minerals that will leave deposits and ruin humidification systems.
- Once the humidification element is charged, wipe it down to remove any excessive water. Position it on a towel for roughly 45 minutes. Close the humidor with the humidifier and the moisture-laden sponge. Leave it over night.
- Let the humidor sit another night, and then take out the sponge and the plastic bag. The walls of the humidor have absorbed the essential water. Now your humidor is prepared to safely store your cigars with confidence.
